In ‘Memory of a Mycelium,’ humans sprout from Otto Wagner’s “Postsparkasse” like strands of a fungal network. Inspired by the Chinese mythology of the creator goddess Nüwa, the protagonists initiate a process of emancipation by freeing themselves from the long braids reminiscent of umbilical cords. A never-ending journey of self-liberation begins.
The concept draws inspiration from Chinese mythology, particularly the legend of Nüwa, the creator goddess who molded humanity from clay. It follows a heroine repeatedly detaching from herself in an endless cycle of release and renewal. With each act of release, she fragments and multiplies, birthing countless echoes of herself.
Hair, a potent symbol in Chinese history, represents new beginnings and liberation. Stylistically, the film blends cinematic and photographic forms, crafting a unique visual language that evokes an uncanny feeling.
