How to Kill a Butterfly

The deliberate demise of a butterfly emerges as a ceremonial defiance against the relentless march of time.

Centered around my grandmother, Heidi Dumreicher, whose unwavering dedication to the daily practice of Tai Chi has shaped her life for six decades, this work reflects a battle not only against mortality but also against the erosion of self. As she now navigates the shifting landscapes of dementia, her movements, rooted in muscle memory, become both a quiet rebellion and a tether to continuity—unfolding within the confines of digital purgatory.

The performance in front of the video installation is part of the work and was presented three times as part of a group exhibition at Parallel Vienna.
